9x Phenomenal Lavender (Lavandula x intermedia 'Niko')

These nine plants were bought in order to fill the space between my driveway and a fence, about 3' wide at the widest point. What was a pleasant surprise to me, however, was learning that lavender apparently give off their distinctive smell even when they're NOT in flower.

This hybrid in particular is advertised as not undergoing winter dieback in our climate, and the first winter with us bore that out (though it was an exceptionally mild winter, so...). I got a little concerned in early June when when we had what appeared to be ridiculously leggy growth -- I immediately thought "I should have trusted that 'part shade' reading from the sun exposure meter last year and planted something different" -- but it soon became obvious that those long stalks were actually flower stalks and that they always look like that. (The lavender plants at the nearby nursery were looking almost as ridiculous.) Unfortunately, we still have a problem with leaning overheavily towards the direct sunlight...
